Learn About National Farm to School Month!

National Farm to School MonthGet out your pencils and get out your books…and get ready for some kids with happy looks! School is back in session and October is National Farm to School Month.

We’ve spoken on our blog before about our friends at the National Farm to School Network. The organization was launched in 2007 to serve as an information, advocacy and networking hub for communities working to bring local food sourcing and food and agriculture education into school systems and preschools.

The National Farm to School Network advocated for a month dedicated to bridging the gap between local farmers and local schools. As a result of their hard work and support from hard-working parents like you, National Farm to School Month was dedicated by Congress in 2010.

National Farm to School Month brings attention to farm to school programs at schools all around the country. The official purpose of National Farm to School month is to demonstrate the growing importance of farm to school programs as a means to improve child nutrition, support local economies and educate children about the origins of food.

At Modern Kids design we think kids are happiest when they are living healthy, full lives. It also helps when they have a full belly of healthy food too! The farm to school movement brings fresh local foods into schools and educates kids on good nutrition.

When you ‘Shop for a Cause’ here on Modern Kids Design you can choose the National Farm to School Network and join in the celebration of National Farm to School Month this October. By choosing the National Farm to School Network when you ‘Shop for a Cause’, 5% of your purchase will automatically go to support their work advocating for the farm to school movement.
