Meet the Makers: My Outdoor Alphabet
As you know if you follow this blog, at Modern Kids Design, we love nature and the outdoors. And like so many of you, we believe our beautiful landscape isn’t just for looking at, but for delving into, as well. From hiking mountain trails to jumping ocean waves, we’re lucky to have a variety of landscapes to explore across the country.
The nation’s different terrain has spurred and encouraged outdoor sports, which oddly enough can sometimes feel challenging to fit in given a seemingly endless array of TV listings. This can be particularly frustrating for nature-loving parents because as we all know there’s nothing quite like the thrill of watching our young ones take to the trails or the lake. While we could write a long post with a great spin on the importance of spending time outdoors with our family, we’ll wait on that one for now. 🙂 In the meantime, here’s creative solution to add to the mix. One cool way to instill a love of outdoor sports and impart a bit of history at the same time is through My Outdoor Alphabet’s thoughtful posters. We love that they are beautiful and they make you think!
Introducing My Outdoor Alphabet
Seth Neilson is a creative director and the creator behind My Outdoor Alphabet—but that’s not all. He’s an avid admirer of the outdoors and a proud dad. And he’s constantly coming up with great ideas that are often expressed through art and photography. On a whim, being a “wayward mountaineer” (lol, his description, not ours), he created a poster that detailed the history of climbing. Being an illustrator, he did so by depicting alpinism-related images that began with the letters of the alphabet. Skillfully arranged and designed, the poster is genuinely a work of modern art.
After creating his first poster, Seth decided to continue by investigating other sports. He dug through their history and equipment for inspiration. To date, he’s created five complete alphabets and is working on more.
We’re proud to spotlight My Outdoor Alphabet’s The Skier’s Alphabet and The Cyclist Alphabet at Modern Kids Design. We love the quality and find the posters to be whimsical, fun, and informative. We also like that the design is so modern and clever that it works for kids, teens and adults. So, it’s the perfect way to share a love of the outdoors with little ones who are just learning their letters and also a perfect gift for the skiing and cyclist enthusiasts in your life.
